This is the year that saw the beginning of the CDR. Beginning this year, all new Vigotone releases would be released on CDR and re-issues of older titles would also be in this format. (If someone tries to sell you a "pressed" CD of one of these titles, you're getting burned!) Also, no releases on the Vigotone label would be made in 1997.
Vigotone's CDR era can be a bit hard to figure out due to the different types of CDR media used.
Vigotone started the CDR era by using "Mitsui Gold" CDR. They then switched to "Kodak Gold" for a short time. Standard Mitsui CDRs came next, and finally generic "silver CDRs" were used for the later releases.
Reissues were done with whatever CDR was being used at the time.
So, this means you can find "Mitsui Gold" CDRs for every 1997 release, but none from mid-1998 as the switch to first Kodak Gold and then standard Mitsui discs happened by then.
In the early days of CDR, Vigotone also experimented with things like printed labels and logo stamps to set them apart.
By 1998, the look of the Vigotone CDRs was set until the arrival of "silver CDRs" in 2000/2001.
